“2 On” was released as Tinashe’s commercial debut single from Aquarius on January 21, 2014. The song, which features a rap verse from T.D.E. veteran ScHoolboy Q was written by Tinashe, Schoolboy Q, Bobby Brackins, DJ Mustard, Jon Redwine, and Marley Waters. “2 On” is an electro-R&B song that contains elements of trap production. During DJ Mustards streak of hit records, this song was the first in which a female act charted on one of his beats. It also features an interpolation of the 2005 single “We Be Burnin'” by Jamaican recording artist Sean Paul, The smash hit could have also been inspired by Marcus Orelias’s song We On featuring T.D.E. affiliate, BJ the Chicago Kid which was originally released March 26, 2012 and re-released June 21, 2013 on his debut album Rebel of the Underground.
