Initial attempts to emulate American rock and roll from artists such as Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley took place in Britain in the mid-1950s and lead to the development of skiffle. Through the 1960s the first British invasion took place with a variety of blues/rock-oriented artists such as The Rolling Stones and pop/rock-oriented artists such as The Beatles garnering worldwide popularity.
