The 1975 - Love It If We Made It
[Verse 1]
We're fucking in a car, shooting heroin
Saying controversial things just for the hell of it
Selling melanin and then suffocate the black men
Start with misdemeanours and we'll make a business out of them
And we can find out the information
Access all the applications
That are hardening positions based on miscommunication
Oh, fuck your feelings
Truth is only hearsay
We're just left to decay
Modernity has failed us
[Chorus]
And I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
[Verse 2]
And poison me, daddy
I got the Jones right through my bones
Write it on a piece of stone
A beach of drowning three-year olds
Rest in peace Lil Peep
The poetry is in the streets
Jesus save us
Modernity has failed us
“Love It If We Made It” is a social anthem, observing the volatile aspects of modern society, responding with a sentiment of hope and positivity with its upbeat sound. It was the second early-release from the album "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships", and the record’s first official single. During the song’s premiere on Beats 1 Radio as Zane Lowe’s World Record, Matt Healy described the song as having a lot of the ethos on the record, as well as demonstrating the band’s growth in writing music that’s more sincere and direct than the band’s past records. Healy explains his method for writing the song and the source of the song’s lyrics: "'It’s quite outward and it’s me kind of looking out. It’s an interesting one because there’s not a lot of context in a lot of the things that I say in that it’s direct quotes of people or their headlines I’ve read.'" While on the surface, some of the song’s lyrical content may seem shocking for a band like The 1975, Healy stated for the record, "'It’s very objective though, this song. I think that’s one of the things I suppose I get to hide behind. A lot of the stuff that you could be upset about in the song, I never said in the first place.'" On August 12, 2018, The 1975 released a Spotify music video in a similar style to “Give Yourself A Try,” with the lyrics popping up in the top left of the screen.
