New Order - Ceremony

This is why events unnerve me,
They find it all, a different story,
Notice whom for wheels are turning,
Turn again and turn towards this time,
All she ask's the strength to hold me,
Then again the same old story,
World will travel, oh so quickly,
Travel first and lean towards this time.

Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown,
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Watching her, these things she said,
The times she cried,
Too frail to wake this time.

Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time,
Avenues all lined with trees,
Picture me and then you start watching,
Watching forever, forever,
Watching love grow, forever,
Letting me know, forever.

Written by Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris & Peter Hook. Produced by Martin Hannett. Released February 1981 on Ceremony. Notes The first New Order track though actually written in the last days of Joy Division. The first version of 'Ceremony' was recorded as a 3-piece in September 1980 during New Order's first US tour. They later re-recorded the track with Gillian Gilbert which was released in July 1981. The original 3-piece recording is only to be found on the 2005 New Order retrospective Singles and the 9th track of the 2008 2CD re-issue of Movement. A live version by Joy Division is on the album Still and Joy Division's very rough demo is found on the JD box-set Heart and Soul.
