Marina - The State of Dreaming

[Verse 1]
Millions of girls float on that one quote
Living on their last hope, on their last hope
I live my life inside a dream, only waking when I sleep
I would sell my sorry soul if I could have it all

[Pre-Chorus]
My life is a play, is a play, is a play
My life is a play, is a play, is a play

[Chorus]
Yeah, I’ve been living in the state of dreaming
Living in a make-believe land
Living in the state of dreaming
Of dreaming, of dreaming

[Verse 2]
All I really want is to be wonderful
People in this town they, they can be so cruel
I live my life inside a dream, only waking when I sleep
If I could sell my sorry soul, I would have it all

[Pre-Chorus]
My life is a play, is a play, is a play
My life is a play, is a play, is a play

Marina said that “State of Dreaming” was inspired by Marilyn Monroe. Through Amazon, she explained the song’s meaning: "Fantasy protects us." The song is appears on her sophomore album "Electra Heart". The music video was released on March 2nd, 2013. In a track-by-track interview about Electra Heart, Marina said: "State of Dreaming’ was inspired by Marilyn Monroe. She basically died in an undignified way. I supposed it’s connected perception and how people see this beautiful image of her and she was a troubled person, but that one image was strong enough to make people behave in certain way, do certain things." The song was written by Marina, Devrim Karaoğlu and Rick Nowels, and produced by Karaoğlu and Nowels. The State of Dreaming was used as Part 9 of 'The Archetypes', and is a 'Beauty Queen' song, along with Fear and Loathing, and Primadonna.
