Kevin Abstract - Boyer

[Verse 1]
I tell 'em I can't spit no game for free
Manage to rock back and forth, rap on your knees
My heart is in the streets where all my fucking niggas be
Boyer in the military in the deep blue sea
Parking lot, lot, lot, lot at H-E-B
Shit was right down the street from Chuck E Cheese

[Chorus]
You cannot run forever, now
Gotta learn your lesson, child
You cannot run forever, now
Gotta learn your lesson, child

[Verse 2]
I tell my mama I ain't with the bullshit
Got Atlanta on my mind, I'm really fucking zooted
RIP my nigga Luke, just take me back to Houston
I was stuck inside apartments thinkin', "What I'm doing?"
I was high as hell, hanging with my white friends
Thinkin' I'ma be alright if I'm just like them
Then the police pull up on me with the lights dimmed
Had me on the ground begging for my life, man

[Chorus]
Like you cannot run forever, now
Gotta learn your lesson, child
You cannot run forever, now
Gotta learn your lesson, child

“Boyer” is the eleventh and final track off of Kevin Abstract’s third studio album ARIZONA BABY, released on April 25, 2019. During Kevin’s #THE1999 live stream he was asked “What’s one person you haven’t forgotten from Corpus”. Kevin responded “Davieon Boyer,” who was his best friend while growing up in the city. It refers back to the previous track “Crumble” which spoke about the pressures of life, saying that “we can not run forever” from our problems, we need to face them head-on with a little help from our friends, forming an inspiring end to the album. The collective ‘we’ working on our problems implies others helping with an individual’s issues, which could be a reference to The Beatles' “With a Little Help from My Friends”, which is from an album which featured Kevin said in a tweet was an important source of inspiration when recording the previous BROCKHAMPTON album iridescence.
