Iron & Wine - Naked As We Came
[Verse 1]
She says, "Wake up, it's no use pretending"
I'll keep stealing, breathing her
Birds are leaving over autumn's ending
One of us will die inside these arms
[Chorus]
Eyes wide open
Naked as we came
One will spread our ashes 'round the yard
[Verse 2]
She says, "If I leave before you, darling
Don't you waste me in the ground"
I lay smiling like our sleeping children
One of us will die inside these arms
[Chorus]
Eyes wide open
Naked as we came
One will spread our ashes 'round the yard
“Naked As We Came” is the second track of Iron & Wine’s 2004 sophomore album "Our Endless Numbered Days". In a live performance for Seattle radio station KEXP, Beam said this about “Naked As We Came”: "I cannot tell you how much teasing I got when I turned the title of that tune in. I turned it in and I was like “I wrote this new song, check it out,” and they were like, “‘Naked As We Came’? Really? That’s what you’re gonna call it?”"
