Declan Mckenna - Bethlehem

[Verse 1]
So, you've left it all behind you
For a love is only as you see it
Though so many do confide in you
It seems you are the one that confines most

[Bridge]
But you sin as you wish

[Chorus]
Because I'm in Bethlehem
I've got a seat in heaven
And though I'm heaven sent
I can do as I want and you don't have the right to choose

[Verse 2]
Codes, you follow codes and break them
For a love is only what does suit you most
Hope, I hope and pray for love to reign
For love is what I give through my own codes

[Bridge]
But you sin as you wish

[Chorus]
Because I'm in Bethlehem
I've got a seat in heaven
And though I'm heaven sent
I can do as I want and you don't have the right to choose
I'm in Bethlehem
I've got a seat in heaven
And though I'm heaven sent
I can do as I want
I'm in Bethlehem
I've got a seat in heaven
And though I'm heaven sent
I can do as I want

“Bethlehem” is the third single from Declan’s debut album “What Do You Think About the Car?” The song finds Declan damning religion’s ugly grip on war and hate. "Having been raised like a Catholic, I have a sort of sympathy for religion, in that I think that religion’s religion. It can be bad or good. People can take it however they want. My parents, for example, aren’t as negative or oppressive as certain strands of Christianity and other religions are. I wanted to write about just the negative stuff, because there is a lot of it that has come out of religion." - Declan McKenna for Teen Vogue
