Pop rap is a sub-genre of hip hop music that gained popularity in the early 90s with artists such as M.C Hammer, Vanilla Ice & Will Smith. Pop rap may also be known as “melodic rap” or “sung rap”. It is a very easy genre to identify, it is usually a hip hop song that features elements of singing and modern pop music. Due to the success of many pop rap artists such as Drake, Future, and Travis Scott: it is a growing genre that is gaining massive popularity. Almost every mainstream hip hop artist now from time to time sings on the hook of songs. The success usually could be attached to how the songs can be catchier than normal rap songs and can bring in listeners from other genres who are not familiar with hip hop. .
