In 2014, the group released two songs, Show Me What You Got and Ugly Heart, to promote their debut self-titled extended play.

On September 5, 2014, Battle was found dead in her West Hollywood home. Following an autopsy, her death was ruled a suicide. Consequently, G.R.L. released the song Lighthouse on Jauary 15, 2015 as a tribute to her, continuing as a quartet. The group ultimately disbanded on June 2, 2015, nearly nine months after Batle's death.

G.R.L. would reform later in the year as a trio with Bennett, Slayton and a new member named Jazzy Mejia.
