Love On The Brain - Rihanna

Love On The Brain

soul pop Rihanna r&b rnb

"Love on the Brain" is a song recorded by Barbadian singer Rihanna for her eighth studio album, Anti (2016). It was written and produced by Fred Ball, with additional writing by Joseph Angel and Rihanna, and Kuk Harrell serving as the vocal producer. The song was provided to rhythmic contemporary and urban contemporary radio stations on September 27, 2016, as the album's fourth single. "Love on the Brain" is a doo-wop and soul ballad inspired by 1950s and 1960s music. Its instrumentation consists of a guitar arpeggio, swirling organ, a simple chord progression, syncopated strings, and orchestra. Lyrically, the song has themes of swinging back and forth between the highs and lows of a toxic love. Rihanna's vocals were noted for being versatile, having lower and higher notes throughout the track, and were compared to those of Amy Winehouse and a range of soul artists. Commercially, the song reached the top of the Polish chart, as well as the top-twenty in France and New Zealand, and top-forty in Austria, Canada and Germany. In the United States, the song reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her 22nd top-five single breaking her tie with Elvis Presley as the artist with the 5th most top-five singles, and it was also her 30th top-ten single tying her with Madonna and The Beatles as the only acts in history to appear at least thirty times in the top-ten of the Hot 100. Rihanna performed the track during her Anti World Tour, as well as at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards and as a part of a medley at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

Love On The Brain - Rihanna

[Verse 1]
And you got me, let go
What you want from me?
What you want from me?
I tried to buy your pretty heart, but the price too high
Baby you got me like oh
You love when I fall apart (fall apart)
So you can put me together
And throw me against the wall

[Pre-Chorus]
Baby you got me like ah, woo, ah
Don't you stop loving me (loving me)
Don't quit loving me (loving me)
Just stop loving it babe (loving me)

[Chorus]
Oh, and baby I’m fist fighting with fire
Just to get close to you
Can we burn something babe?
And I run for miles just to get a taste
Must be love on the brain
That’s got me feeling this way
It beats me black and blue but it fucks me so good
And I can’t get enough
Must be love on the brain yeah
And it keeps cursing my name
No matter what I do
I’m no good without you
And I can’t get enough
Must be love on the brain

[Verse 2]
Then you keep loving me
Just love me, yeah
Just love me
All you need to do is love me yeah
Got me like ah-ah-ah-ow
I’m tired of being played like a violin
What do I gotta do to get in your motherfuckin’ heart?
Baby like ah, woo, ah

[Pre-Chorus]
Baby you got me like ah, woo, ah
Don't you stop loving me (loving me)
Don't quit loving me (loving me)
Just stop loving me (loving me)

[Chorus]
Oh, and baby I’m fist fighting with fire
Just to get close to you
Can we burn something babe?
And I run for miles just to get a taste
Must be love on the brain
That’s got me feeling this way
It beats me black and blue but it fucks me so good
And I can’t get enough
Must be love on the brain yeah
And it keeps cursing my name
No matter what I do
I’m not good without you
And I can’t get enough
Must be love on the brain
