Everlong - Foo Fighters

Everlong

The Colour and the Shape
rock alternative rock alternative foo fighters 90s

Everlong is the second single from Foo Fighters' second album, 1997's "The Colour and the Shape". It hit #18 in the UK and #3 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. In 2000, on his first show back from heart surgery, American late night comedian David Letterman introduced the band's performance of the song with "here's my favorite band, performing my favorite song". This appearance made Foo Fighters the first band to perform the same song twice on Letterman's "The Late Show" program. The band would later perform "Everlong" on Letterman's final show in May 2015. Everlong has been featured in the popular music themed video games Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour. Although the song is normally performed with electric guitars, vocalist/guitarist Dave Grohl's solo acoustic variation gained popularity after an impromptu rendition on Howard Stern's radio show in 1997. The band has often performed the acoustic version of the song live since then. A common feature of the electric live performances of Everlong involves Dave playing the first two verses and choruses on his own, with the entire band joining in for the final parts of the song. This can be seen on the Hyde Park DVD. A different acoustic version of this song concludes the 2006 live CD and DVD Skin and Bones. A muzak version of the chorus appears in the opening and closing scenes of band's music video for "Learn to Fly," from the subsequent album There Is Nothing Left to Lose.

Foo Fighters are an American rock band formed by singer/guitarist/drummer Dave Grohl in 1995 in Seattle, USA. Grohl formed the group as a one-man project after the dissolution of his previous band Nirvana in 1994. Prior to the release of Foo Fighters in 1995, Grohl drafted Nate Mendel (bass), William Goldsmith (drums) (both of Sunny Day Real Estate and The Fire Theft), and Pat Smear (guitar) (of The Germs) to complete the group. Goldsmith left during the recording of the group's second album The Colour and the Shape (1997) Show more ...

Everlong - Foo Fighters

Hello, I've waited here for you, everlong
Tonight, I throw myself into and out of the red, out of her head she sang

Come down and waste away with me, down with me
Slow how, you wanted it to be, I'm over my head, out of her head she sang
And I wonder when I sing along with you if everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when she sang

Breathe out, so I can breathe you in, hold you in
And now, I know you've always been out of your head, out of my head I sang
And I wonder when I sing along with you if everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when she sang

[Spoken]
Sometimes in life we wander aimlessly,
Searching for a purpose, searching for ourselves.
And yet, sometimes in life, we are so oblivious to the obvious
Because everything is right in front of us
And we're missing the point of living
We're missing the point of living

And I wonder if everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
