Burn - Deep Purple

Burn

Burn
hard rock classic rock rock 70s deep purple

Burn is a hard rock song by British rock band Deep Purple. It was released on the album of the same name in 1974, and was the first song by the Mark III lineup. The song remained the band's concert opener for the next two years, taking over from "Highway Star". It opened Deep Purple's set on the California Jam two months after its release, on April 6, 1974. After the Deep Purple 1984 reunion, the song was no longer played, as Ian Gillan, who David Coverdale replaced, was vocalist once more, and would not sing songs from after he left the band. The band did perform it live from 1989 to 1992, though, because during those years, Gillan was fired from the band once more, and Joe Lynn Turner, who had not previously been in the band replaced him. However, Gillan returned to the band in 1992, and thereby put an end to the band performing Coverdale-era songs to this day. After Deep Purple's 1976 split-up, though, Coverdale formed his own band, Whitesnake, which, over the years has featured Deep Purple members such as Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Don Airey, and has performed covers of Coverdale-era Deep Purple songs such as "Burn", "Mistreated", "Might Just Take Your Life", "Soldier of Fortune", and "Stormbringer".

Deep Purple is an English hard rock band that formed in Hertfordshire in 1968. Together with groups such as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, they're considered as heavy metal pioneers. Especially influential to later metal bands were Ian Gillan's powerful screams and Ritchie Blackmore's virtuoso solos. Deep Purple were also very influential to progressive music as well, with their style evolving over the years and incorporating a variety of genres from art rock to blues to psychedelia and more. Burn - Deep Purple

The sky is red, I don't understand,
Past midnight I still see the land.
People are sayin' the woman is damned,
She makes you burn with a wave of her hand.
The city's a blaze, the town's on fire.
The woman's flames are reaching higher.
We were fools, we called her liar.
All I hear is "Burn!"

I didn't believe she was devil's sperm.
She said, "Curse you all, you'll never learn!
When I leave there's no return. "
The people laughed till she said, "Burn!"
Warning came, no one cared.
Earth was shakin', we stood and stared.
When it came no one was spared.
Still I hear "Burn!"

You know we had no time,
We could not even try.
You know we had no time.

You know we had no time,
We could not even try.
You know we had no time.

The sky is red, I don't understand,
Past midnight I still see the land.
People are sayin' the woman is damned,
She makes you burn with a wave of her hand.
Warning came, no one cared.
Earth was shakin, we stood and stared.
When it came no one was spared.
Still I hear "Burn!"
