"I'll Be Here Awhile" is a single by alternative rock band 311. It is the 12th and closing track on their album From Chaos. Lead singer Nick Hexum originally wrote it when he was twenty, hence the line in the refrain "Twenty years of age, " though Hexum was thirty when he recorded it. He comments on the interview included on the disc of From Chaos that he was living a wild and crazy life at that young age. The lyrics "And if a person, place, or thing can deliver/ I will quiver with delight" are taken directly from "The Lust, The Flesh, The Eyes, and the Pride of Life" a song by the Christian alternative rock group The 77s.

311 was formed in 1990 in Omaha, Nebraska, United States by singer/guitarist Nick Hexum, singer S.A. Martinez, guitarist Tim Mahoney, drummer Chad Sexton and bassist P-Nut. The band now resides in Los Angeles, California. 311 mix rock, rap, reggae and funk into their own unique sound. After years of consistent touring, 311 have developed a reputation as one of the hardest working, most influential and most entertaining live bands in the U.S. 311 have released ten studio albums Show more ...

I'll Be Here Awhile - 311

I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while

Far is solace in the maddening pace
sad state written on my face
not a tight rope walk but dance
uncertain game of chance
but I ll see it through in time

I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while

And if a person place or thing can deliver
I will quiver with delight
tempted by the hand that could
blind my vision and sight
but at twenty years of age
in frolic and in rage
I will see it through in time

I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
I ll be here a while

But the dawn has come into the endless night
and everything s going to be alright
but at thirty years of age
through frolic and in rage
all regressed and healed in time

I ll be here a while, ain t going nowhere
Said I, said I, said I, I will survive
